From September to June, Works in Progress NYC offers placements to interested students coming from high schools where internships are integral parts of the curriculum. We also offer summer internships to organizations with Summer Youth Employment Programs and to volunteers. We have hosted college students, foreign exchange students, new immigrants and motivated young people who hear about us
from friends or other organizations, and come to discover the art of screen printing.
Through our long standing relationships with NYC High Schools, both public and independent, and Community Based Organizations, WIP provides a hands-on, real world of work experience in our NYC silk screen printing studio. Rotating around the shop students will learn a variety of techniques and skills associated with the production of custom t-shirt printing as well as customer service, quality control, inventory and the all important concept of team work.
The culminating activity for our interns is the creation of their own one-color design. Interns are afforded a small budget to purchase shirts, bags or fleece and produce a small run from beginning to end. Students often use this experience as part of their final project for school credit.
